Busway will blitz wildlife haven

SIR, I am most upset over the Leigh Busway plans.

I am very interested in our local wild life and was given permission to build bird watching hides at what was the Green Lane Tree Bank which I built over the last four years.

I also put up and look after quite a number of nest boxes which have been very successful, I also put about 8-10 kilos of bird food out each weekend on the feeding stations that I built and as a result the number of birds and species has increased dramatically.

Bird watchers and local people alike use the area and are delighted with it.

Not only are there many birds but also frogs, newts, watervoles, weasles, foxes and many species of butterfly and dragonflies and wild deer in the area.

I heard that a compulsory purchase order has been put on the Tree Bank in order that a car park may be built to serve the bus route.

This will have devastating effects on the local wildlife and the landscape as a whole.

Since the closure of the railway and the mines this area has become a treasure of wildlife and natural beauty let alone miles of country walks.

Therefore I would like to know how we can try to put a stop to this 'Misguided Bus Route'.
