MANY readers will be aware that despite over 7,000 signatures of opposition, the Drumcroon Gallery was finally forced to close its doors last month.
As members of the registered charity "Friends of Drumcroon", we are now concerned about the fate of the School Loan Collection. This consists of thousands of pounds worth of original works of art, purchased for, or donated to, Wigan Borough's children and loaned out to its schools.
Will this wonderful collection now be left in storage (and is this storage secure?), will it be sold off or distributed across the borough, or will the council find some way of continuing to provide access so that our pupils will continue to benefit from the enrichment this valuable resource has long provided.
Perhaps any teachers, together with members of the public, who, during their own education, have enjoyed the privilege of engaging with these wondeful artefacts, could approach our council for reassurance that the service will continue to provide pleasure and enrichment in our schools.
Jacki Williams, Leigh, on behalf of "Friends of Drumcroon".
