Help for carers

HELP is available to anyone who is a carer.

When you become a carer the people that you thought were your friends suddenly disappear, and you find yourself isolated from all outside contact, it is a very lonely and thankless time.

When I became a carer for my terminally ill wife, I was so depressed that I was on the verge of committing suicide. Thankfully my health trainer suggested I contact Wigan & Leigh Carers Centre.

I am so glad that I took that advice.

The centre proved to be a life line to me, in no time at all I was getting all the support and advice that I had been struggling to find for months. The staff and volunteers at the centre are fabulous and you would be amazed by the genuine friendship and advice from other carers who use the centre.

Unfortunately my time as a carer ended when my wife passed away not long ago, but I continue to visit the centre and hopefully put something back, in return for the support I received when I needed it most.

If Wigan Council ever present a public service award Wigan & Leigh Carers Centre must surely be in the running to win it.
