Atherton market was a dream come true

WE had a dream for a Christmas market in Atherton and that dream came true.

When something is a fantastic success there are many people who need to be thanked: the public for their support, the Council - absolutely fantastic with the Pact fund they gave us and in particular community engagement officer Steve Williams, Cllrs Norman Bradbnury, Bob Splaine and Karen Aldred for brighter borough funding.

Now to the grafters who were there at 5.15am getting the market ready. Darren Stephenson from Whitewater Bathrooms, Houghton Homes, electrician Pete Wilde, Julie of Buttyfull Cafe who provided drinks and bacon barms for us, Lynn Hayes (Greengrass centre), Jamie Hodgkinson and the Scouts, Mark Cotterill, Salvation Army, Geoff Hamlett (Atherton Business Partnership), Frank Scally for transport, the Church for the use of the Father Christmas grotto, Brian from Atherton Community for the loan of the marquee.

The market was a huge success for the project group, the community and busy local businesses. The charity shop raised £800 on the Saturday. It was all about bringing the community and businesses together.

Look out for our next market very soon.

Val Houghton, Houghton Homes, Atherton Business Partnership.
