IT has taken a decade to bring cult favourite, Zombieland, back to the screen.

But fans will love taking another bite out of director Ruben Fleischer’s apocalyptic, laugh-filled world in the sequel Double Tap.

For those unfamiliar with the action comedy, Zombieland is the tonic to gritty zombie dramas like The Walking Dead. Writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese are not interested in exploring the human condition through the ‘undead’.

Instead they use zombies as a jumping off point to explore what a bunch of mismatched survivors would do if the world had ended.

In this case, move into the White House and visit Graceland.

The joy of the first Zombieland was the cast – geeky Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg), headstrong Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson), snarky Wichita (Emma Stone) and feisty Little Rock (Abigail Breslin).

And the sequel reunites them all with the addition of airhead Madison (Zoey Deutch) who walks a wonderful line between loveable and irritating.

The consistently great Rosario Dawson is also a fantastic addition as the fiercely independent Nevada.

Time off screen together has not faded the great chemistry between the actors and Double Tap again revels in Columbus’s rules of survival with many tongue-in-cheek moments mixed in among the carnage. The story sees couple Columbus and Wichita wonder if there is the headspace for a serious relationship in the post-apocalypse.

Feelings are then put on hold when Little Rock runs away from her makeshift family with her hippy poser boyfriend Berkeley (Avan Jogia) in search of Graceland.

Double Tap is consistently funny and entertaining but it lacks the original’s impact after 10 years.

It is also pretty light on plot but makes up for it with plenty of stylish flourishes, good pacing and the overriding sense that everyone making the film was having a great time. You cannot help but be brought along for the ride.
