THE first 10 film buffs who arrive to a unique Dirty Dancing cinema experience carrying a watermelon will get in for free.

Manchester's famous Old Granada Studios, once home to some of the UK’s favourite TV programmes including Coronation Street, is screening the popular romantic film in the lead up to Valentine's Day.

The watermelon offer is a nod to the 1987 flick starring Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze which is regarded as one of the world’s most loved romantic films.

The film will be shown at 6.30pm and 9.30pm tomorrow, Friday, and at 2.30pm, 6.30pm and 9.45pm on Saturday.

As well as the classic movie the audience will be treated to live performances from professional dancers and Dirty Dancing-themed food served by waiting staff directly to their table.

Stuart Barber, general manager of the event, said: “This really is a different kind of cinematic experience, with much more to offer than a normal film showing.

"We are excited to see guests get into the Dirty Dancing spirit and turn up in costume with their watermelons.

“Lots of couples tend to go to the cinema for Valentine’s Day but we wanted to give them a unique and engaging experience that they will not forget.

"Dirty Dancing was the obvious choice – it is iconic, fun but also very romantic.”

Tickets to the Dirty Dancing film experience are £14.99 and include a complimentary glass of champagne at the door, waiting service to your table, an extensive selection of cocktails, the option to eat from the Dirty Dancing-themed menu, a pre-show DJ set, professional dance performances and a VIP seat.

There is also a free cocktail up for grabs for anyone brave enough to go dressed as Johnny or Baby.
