Tron 3, the sequel to Tron: Legacy, has been put on hold.
Disney has decided to halt the third instalment in the sci-fi series, sources told The Hollywood Reporter.
Olivia Wilde and Garrett Hedlund were set to reprise their roles in the follow-up, alongside director Joseph Kosinski.
Preparation on the third film had already begun, with the shoot scheduled to take place in the autumn.
There were also rumours of Jared Leto being added to the cast, although talks hadn’t begun.
The third Tron film has been in development since Tron: Legacy was a box office success following its release in 2010, 18 years after 1982′s Tron, starring Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner.
Film fans have expressed their disappointment over the shelved sequel.
