People Just Do Nothing star Lily Brazier is to return as a teenage pop group’s music manager in a new BBC comedy.
The actress, who portrays MC Grindah’s wife Miche in the Bafta-winning show, is the co-writer of Wannabe, which arrives on BBC Three next month.
Viewers will see Brazier play failed singer Maxine, whose own girl group, Variety, never made it to the big time, and follow her as she desperately tries to cling on to her dream as manager of Sweet Gyal.
After the band try to drop her, Maxine attempts to find her ex-bandmates for a mum-pop comeback.
Written by Brazier and Ben Murray, the four-part series also stars Nathan Barley’s Nicholas Burns and Peep Show’s Jim Howick.
Brazier said: “Ben and I have had so much fun writing Wannabe. Thanks to Maxine, I’m getting to live out my childhood dream of being a pop star – albeit a failed one – and I’m really looking forward to working with the talented cast to bring the world of Wannabe to life.”
