RESIDENTS of a Leigh nursing home celebrated national care home day in style with a visit from Leigh Centurions.
Elderly people at Bedford Residential Nursing Care, on Battersby Street, and former Leigh Centurions player Tommy Grainey were joined by team captain and business manager Rob Parker, director Alan Platt and mascot Parky Pig.
Tommy Grainey first signed for Leigh in 1961 from the Spinners Arms amateur team and played in the town until 1973, making 164 appearances, scoring 16 tries and 135 goals.
Children from St George’s Central CE School in Tyldesley and St Thomas’ CE School in Leigh visited and played games with the residents, and there was also entertainment from singer Collin James.
A reminiscent session saw residents singing along to old songs, and remembering certain retro items from years gone by, such as washing boards and powder.
Val Hilton, carer at the Bedford Nursing Home, said: “Everybody had a fantastic day, they didn’t want it to end and the singer, Collin, ended up staying for half an hour longer than he was supposed to.”
Bedford residents presented the Centurions representatives with a framed Hilton Park print.
