ATHERTON cricketer Karl Brown has made a magnificent start to the HSBC Under-19 Tri Series tournament in Malaysia.
Representing England against the host nation at the Selangor Turf Club, Karl played his part in a fine century stand for the opening wicket. He was run out for 55 shortly after the total passed into three figures, this being equal top-score for the England innings which ended on a massive 316.
When the Malaysians batted, Brown, a product of Atherton Cricket Club junior section's production line, was thrown the ball and took two wickets at the cost of just 13 runs to take the Man of the Match award in his side's 157 run victory.
England U19s now have three victories in the tournament and Karl, who is now a member of the Lancashire CC squad, has made contributions with both bat and ball in each one
