WORK on Leigh bus station will begin on Monday.

The station will get a £1million facelift as part of Transport for Greater Manchester’s bus priority package investment.

The improvements will include a new-look Travelshop, refurbished public toilets, new signage and redecoration and re-glazing of the bus stands to create a more modern passenger waiting room.

Passengers should be aware that there will be some changes to the stands from where bus services will operate during the construction works and a temporary Travelshop will be in place throughout the main works.

Cllr Mark Aldred, deputy chair of the TfGM Committee, said: “It’s exciting to see this amount of money being spent on improving Leigh Bus Station. The new-look bus station will provide passengers with a more pleasant waiting environment, as well as cycling facilities.”

A new cycle hub will also be built to accommodate 46 bikes under full cover, with CCTV coverage and swipe card entry.

The work is due to be completed by the end of the summer 2015.
