A SPEEDING motorist collided with two on-coming cars and forced two pedestrians over a wall.

Trevor Taylor had been drinking and knew that stress might again lead to a black-out but nevertheless set off in his Alfa Romeo. As he drove along Wigan Road, Leigh, he went round a corner on the wrong side of the road and into the path of David Farrow, who was with his wife and two children in a Peugeot 206.

Mr Farrow swerved but the sides of the vehicles collided. Taylor continued on and as he went round another bend his back-end went onto the wrong side of the road and struck another on-coming car driven by Joanne Ramsdale and her car spun round.

Simon Leong, prosecuting, told Liverpool Crown Court pedestrians Darren Livesey and his girlfriend were walking towards Hindley Green when they heard the sound of an engine being over-revved behind them. They turned round and saw Taylor's car coming towards them with two wheels on the pavement. He threw his girlfriend over a wall and then jumped over it himself, said Mr Leong.

The Alfa came to a halt about 200 yards further along the road and when arrested at the scene he was found to have 129 millilitres of alcohol in 100 millitres of urine. The limit is 107.

Fortunately the injuries he caused were not serious but more than £4,000 damaged was caused to the other vehicles.

Taylor, who had drunk three pints of beer, told police he could not remember what had happened and said he had had a black-out.

Taylor, 43, of Abbey Lane, Leigh, pleaded guilty to driving dangerously and with excess alcohol.

He was sentenced to ten months imprisonment suspended for two years and disqualified from driving for four years. He was ordered to carry out 200 hours unpaid work, £200 compensation and £350 prosecution costs.

Judge Gerald Clifton told Taylor, who has previous convictions for driving with excess alcohol and while disqualified: "This was appalling, selfish driving."
