'YOU’RE not alone'. That is the message from students at Leigh’s Bedford High School to support anyone who has been bullied.

In support of Anti-Bullying week, pupils have produced a three minute video called 'I am Holly' about a girl being bullied.

Holly, who is played by student Kara Mitchell, talks about how she feels she has no-one to talk to and how it is affecting other areas of her life. The film also focuses on the different forms that bullying can take from physical intimidation through to cyber-bullying, texting and social media.

The ultimate message is an uplifting one as Holly’s friends and the entire school community rally around her to help her beat the bullies.

Students from Year 7 and 8 came up with the concept of the film, and shot and edited it over the space of a week, with the help of professionals from video production outfit Northstar Digital.

Bridget Moss, Bedford High School Assistant Headteacher and Head of Pastoral Care, said: “This film is for any young person who can relate to the situations or characters in it, so while it's made by and for Bedford students, there is a message for everyone.”

Kara Mitchell, aged 11, said: “I wanted to be involved because this is really what some people have to go through.

"They shouldn't have to and they are not alone at Bedford. We will stand together against bullying.”

Bedford High School Headteacher Helen Phillips said: “This is a fantastic film and everyone who has been involved in it should be really proud of themselves. Not only does it showcase how talented our young people are but it illustrates the caring environment we have created at Bedford. We would like to see this film used as a resource for young people across the country.

"If just one young person decides to take action against bullying as a result of watching it, then it will have served its purpose.”
