A LEIGH soldier could claim to rival the great escapologist Harry Houdini.
The Journal reported that Private Frank Cowburn of Glebe Street escaped from the Germans seven times after being taken prisoner.
On the seventh occasion he disguised himself as a Polish girl and eventually arrived home from Odessa via the Middle East.
