A LOWTON author is hoping to help people follow in her footsteps through her new creative writing classes.

Christine Johnson, who writes under the pseudonym of C J Harter, is passing on her knowledge to the public in a four-week course at the As in Eden community centre on Walmesley Road, Leigh.

The first class is on Saturday and the 52-year-old domestic noir novelist promises that the course, which will run until May 7, will be unique.

Christine, who wrote Rowan's Well and lives on Abbey Road, said: “As a writer I’ve learnt that some people who write do not read a lot, which shocked me.

"The course focuses on that element because I think it’s crucial to becoming a writer.

“It’s quite a unique course in that sense as I want to teach people from that perspective and using what is around them.”

Christine's new book Fitful Head, which should be released later this year, is mostly set at Pennington Flash with other scenes taking place in Lowton.

She said: “The house that features in the book is on Bodden Street, Lowton, as I used to live there. It’s not a real house but it’s a real street.

"The book has personal elements like that in it, though it is a work of fiction.”
