THIRTY-two luxury homes, ‘more than 70 jobs’ and a new restaurant are coming to Astley with plans for a £9 million development having been approved.

The Astley Point development at the 4.5-acre site on Higher Green Lane has been given the go-ahead under delegated powers by Wigan Council, with building work set to begin in the summer and the first homes to be ready for occupation a year later.

The plan includes a new restaurant entertainment destination, secure parking for all residents and new landscaping, including a water feature and extensive planting.

Sean McCaul, director at developer Salcaul Limited, said: “We are thrilled our proposals for Astley Point have been approved.

“We aim to create a very high quality development – a new focal point for Higher Green and Astley.”

“Our architects Cartwright and Gross have created exciting plans for the site, which will set the new homes and leisure opportunities in stunning landscaped surroundings informed by the local heritage, history and countryside.”

Cllr David Molyneux, cabinet member for regeneration, said: “The population of Wigan Borough is growing. In fact, by 2026 it is predicted we will need an extra 13,500 homes to keep up with demand.

“Wigan Council is committed to ensuring we have enough homes for residents and so we are pleased that this application, in the popular village of Astley, has been given the green light.

“The high-quality development will not only bring new homes to Astley but will also create more than 70 new jobs.

“I look forward to seeing the scheme take shape.”

The first homes will go on sale, off-plan, in the summer.
