A multi-million pound health centre has opened its doors.
The £4.5 million Bridgewater Medical Centre in Henry Street, Leigh, will treat 13,000 patients, combining the work of four local GP's surgeries, which had become outdated.
The state-of-the-art centre, designed and owned by developer Charter Medical, will be leased to the Primary Care Trust.
Andy Burnham, Leigh MP and health minister, said: "The health service in Leigh is taking another stride forward with the completion of this superb facility. It has taken a long time, but I would like to thank all the partners involved for seeing it through.
"It will give our town a modern and high quality primary care facility and improve standards of patient care."
The centre will provide additional patient services, including minor surgery, and has disabled access, car parking and a pharmacy next door.
Alan Stephenson, chairman of the Ashton, Leigh and Wigan Primary Care Trust, said: "Now GPs have a superb working environment, but the main thing is that the patients benefit more than anyone."
