LEIGH Market stallholders have amassed two-thirds of their £3,000 fundraising target for Macmillan Cancer Support and are urging residents to help them raise the rest.
A raffle, tombola and cake sale at the market has seen the tally for its charity of the year pass the £2,000 mark.
But the aim is to raise £1,000 more and residents are requested to make a donation for a triathlon challenge on Sunday, July 17, which will see Westhoughton's Daniel Baldwin, whose uncle runs a butchers stall at the market, tackle a 2.4-mile swim, a 14-mile bike ride and an eight-mile run.
Kathryn Holt, of Kathryn’s Café in the market, who has been organising the fundraising, said: “We always choose a charity to back every year.
"This year we picked Macmillan Cancer Support because of the wonderful work it does.
“We have all got involved in the fundraising. I could not have done it without the help and support of everyone at the market but we want to make a last push to reach £3,000.”
Daniel, a personal trainer, said: “The triathlon is going to be really tough but it is for a good cause and I am ready to go.
“I am hoping to add to what the market has already raised and hopefully together as a town we can raise a good amount to give to the charity.”
