THIS week we look back at an early colourised photocard of an illuminated tram.
The original picture of the South Lancashire Tramways public transport was taken in 1907 to mark the opening of Leigh’s new town hall.
The opening which was seen as a sign of success for the then borough of Leigh, which was in existence from 1899 to 1974.
The unique photograph, which is not to be confused with the bright lights of Blackpool, was taken near the Punch Bowl Hotel in Atherton and is titled ‘Success to Leigh'.
The town hall designed by Atherton-born architect JC Prestwich, who ran a business in the town.
If you have a photograph you would like us to use in Look back at Leigh, send it to newsdesk@leighjournal.co.uk with your name, address and a daytime telephone number, plus details of when the picture was taken and what it shows.
