THIS week we take a look back at a 1919 photograph of a First World War tank.
It was donated to Leigh as a reward for the town’s war efforts and arrived at Leigh train station on May 6.
It was then driven to Market Place to be seen by dignitaries and residents before being placed on a concrete plinth in Lilford Park, where this picture was taken.
The tank was one of the first to be used in a war.
It took part in the Battle of Cambrai in France in 1917 and was most likely used for as scrap for the Second World War.
If you have a photograph you would like us to use in Look Back at Leigh, send it to newsdesk@leighjournal.co.uk with your name, address and a daytime telephone number, plus details of when the picture was taken and what it shows.
