UNEMPLOYMENT has risen across the borough, new figures show.
The number of people out of work and seeking unemployment benefit stood at 5,235 at the end of last month, which is 145 more than a year ago.
However in the same timeframe the amount of people aged 18 to 24 claiming unemployment benefit fell by 115 to 1,255.
A Jobcentre Plus spokesman said: "In Wigan Borough the overall claimant count shows a very slight increase on the same time last year, although youth unemployment continues to fall.
"We continue to work closely with key employers and organisations to help those looking for work to access the opportunities and support they need.
"Jobs fairs in Leigh and Atherton over the past few weeks have been well attended by employers, providers and job seekers alike."
