A NEWLY-married couple have put their honeymoon on hold for an operatic society show.

Three Towns Operatic Society's Alison Rogers and David Rawlinson set sail for a happy future together as they tied the knot at the Mere Hall Register Office in their home town of Bolton.

The society is rehearsing for a production of HMS Pinafore in May and Alison, 58, who has been a member for eight years, and David, 64, who helps backstage and front of house, have decide to postpone their honeymoon until after the show.

Alison said: “It was wonderful to have my society friends around me on our special day.

"Everyone is so friendly – we are one big family.”

Her Majesty's Ship Pinafore is the setting for Gilbert and Sullivan's first blockbuster and is among the most crowd-pleasing comic musicals in history, loved for its dynamite songs and highly entertaining story.

The captain's daughter is in love with an ordinary sailor but her father has a more sophisticated suitor in mind.

However all is not what it seems.

Can the revelations of a dark secret save the day?

Filled with Sullivan's memorable melodies, HMS Pinafore and Trial will be staged at St Joseph’s Concert Hall, Chapel Street, Leigh, from May 16 to 20.
