A BATTLE between retail giants on a high school football pitch is looming.
Tesco Extra's community team have challenged Sports Direct to an 11-a-side fundraising football match in aid of Diabetes UK and The British Heart Foundation.
Billed as The Battle of The Loom, the game will be played at Lowton High School from 5.30pm tomorrow, Sunday.
Sports Direct manager Marc Selby said: "Our store is situated inside the Tesco Extra store on The Loom retail park in Leigh and all the staff like a challenge so we accepted.
"We hope to raise a lot of money from both our Sports Direct staff and our wider community on social media.
"It is a very worthy cause."
Spectators will be made welcome and charity donations will be collected on the day.
Anyone who would like to donate but cannot go to the match should visit justgiving.com/fundraising/BattleoftheLoom or check out @sportsdirectLeigh on Facebook.
