A SCOUTS group have made a video as part of a campaign to raise enough funds to pay for an 'amazing' adventure trip to the Isle of Man and much-needed new equipment.

The 3rd Lowton St Catherine’s Scout Group are hoping to go on the five-day guided adventure in July and to have new tents and other essential equipment before the camping season starts.

A JustGiving page has been set up in a bid raise the £1,500 needed and the children have made a video to demonstrate their skills and appeal for funding.

Lucy McAvoy, a mother-of-two Scouts in the group who helped to produce the video, said: “The children scripted it brilliantly and put all their effort into it to make sure it showed what they can do as well as being funny.

“The Isle of Man will be such an amazing trip, and for young people it will be empowering for them to go away and be part of unbelievable adventures.

“It will be the first trip away for a lot of the Scouts and could be the only opportunity to get to go somewhere like the Isle of Man for some of them.”

The trip will include activities such as gorge walking, orienteering and watersports.

The group, who have weekly sessions at the Lowton Independent Methodist Church on Newton Road, are planning to sell unused equipment, bag pack at supermarkets and set up car wash days to help raise the money needed.

Replacing worn out camping and cooking equipment is a priority for the group, who no longer have an affiliated fundraising organisation helping to subsidise trips and Scouting essentials.

Lucy, who lives in Lowton, added: “Scouting is a massive part of communities across the whole world, but we are facing the challenge of social change and are working so hard to keep our group running and to remain at the heart of our community.

“The togetherness and teamwork children get from the activities is great.

"They are given independence and allowed to be their own person.

“We want to try to make sure it keeps going for generations coming through.”
