NINE women who studied together half a century ago have met up at their former high school.

Lynn Hayes, Joyce Hallworth, Kay McClymont, Dorothy Eckersley, Carole Galbraith, Vivien Thompson, Brenda Richardson, Joyce Loudon and Pat Holden graduated from Leigh's Manchester Road Secondary Modern School for Girls in 1968.

Their reunion at the now named Bedford High School took place on Monday, March 27.

Lynn, who is now a governor of the school, said: “It was a great feeling to see everyone again.

“It feels like no time has passed at all, as though we were all going to the school yesterday."

The women toured the halls, corridors and classrooms in a trip down memory lane to see how much the building has changed.

They also spoke to the year 10 media students about their time at the Manchester Road school.

Head teacher Helen Phillips said: “It was a real honour for our school to play host to such a special reunion.

“We are really pleased we could help to bring this group of friends back together again.

“I think it shows that wherever you go in life you always remember your school days and friends.”
