A COLLECTION of films by an Oscar-winning scriptwriter and renowned actor has been released by the BBC.
Colin Welland, who was a teacher at Manchester Road Secondary Modern School in Leigh, won a Best Screenplay Oscar for Chariots of Fire in 1982.
He is also famous for his role as a sympathetic primary school teacher in Ken Loach's classic 1969 film Kes.
Before achieving success on the silver screen Colin, who died in 2015 aged 81, starred in and wrote a number of British TV films.
Six of them are now available to buy on the BBC website.
They were all made between 1970 and 1976.
The collection includes 1974 flick Leeds - United!, a political drama about women from the Yorkshire city's clothing industry who went on strike for better pay.
The film, written by Colin, was the most expensive TV film in history at the time and provoked anger from factory bosses and unions.
The other films are Jack Point, A Passage to England, Your Man from Six Countries, The Hallelujah Handshake and Kisses at Fifty.
They are all priced £2.99.
