THOUSANDS of people turned out across the borough today, Remembrance Sunday, to pay their respects to servicemen and women who lost their lives while fighting for their country.
Ceremonies took place in Leigh, Atherton, Tyldesley, Hindley, Lowton and Golborne to honour heroes from the First World War, Second World War as well as other conflicts.
Leigh Cenotaph was surrounded by hundreds of residents as the parade, which contained a number of different organisations that set off from Ullswater Street at 10.25am, entered before a service led by the town's Clergy commenced.
Prayers were read during the service and a wreath-laying ceremony followed.
A two-minute silence was observed immaculately at 11am.
A return procession led the parade to the town hall square where a salute took place and residents were praised for their attendance.
MP Jo Platt was one of a number of the town's prominent figures in attendance.
