THE family of a lifelong Leigh Centurions fan who died in a car crash have paid tribute to him.

Gerald Seddon, 64, was driving home from Leigh Sports Village after watching his side play yesterday, Sunday, when his car- a blue and white Austin Mini Sky Rose- collided with a white BMW.

The crash happened on St Helens Road around 4.55pm with Gerald travelling west towards Atherleigh Way and the BMW going in the opposite direction.

Mr Seddon suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two of his passengers were taken to hospital after the crash- a 32 year-old man and a 41-year-old man.

The 32-year-old is still in hospital with non-life-threatening injuries while the 41-year-old has been released and is recovering at home.

The driver of the BMW suffered minor injuries and stayed at the scene to speak with officers.

No arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

Gerald’s family said: “Gerald was a lifelong Leigh Centurions supporter and lived for Northern Soul Weekends.

“We are just shocked and numb and coming to terms with what has happened.”

Mr Seddon was from Newton-le-Willows.

PC Seamus Toal, from Greater Manchester Police's (GMP) Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “My thoughts continue for be with Gerald’s family at this devastating time.

“Gerald had been at the Leigh Centurions match and was on his way home when the collision happened.

“We are still appealing for anyone who saw the collision to get in touch- particularly if you have dash-cam footage- and are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.”
