RESIDENTS in Atherton are being urged to be vigilant after reports of a man offering to collect rubbish for cash under the guise of Wigan Council.
After knocking on doors, the man has allegedly been wearing a council badge and telling people he can take away the waste for £20.
A spokesman for the council said: "This is not how we operate and we would advise people to turn down this request."
