A SPORTS centre is celebrating after being awarded £8,000 to fund a new project.
The Pelican Centre in Tyldesley will use the money provided from a Sport England scheme on a new programme called Healthier Together
The Castle Street centre is one of 26 projects in low-income areas which have been given up to £10,000 to improve people’s health and mental wellbeing though sport and activity.
Sport England executive director Mike Diaper, said: “We know people on low-incomes face many pressures that make it difficult for them to be as active as they would like to be.
“We are working with community-focused organisations across the country to help them fit physical activity into their lives in ways that work for them.
“All the groups have a strong track record of working with their community and we are very excited by how these projects could make such a positive difference to people’s lives.”
