STAFF who were made redundant at a brewery depot in Golborne marked their last day in style.

Around 150 draymen, warehouse and office staff at the Carlsberg depot on Yew Tree Way were led to the Stone Cross Table Table pub by worker John Imrie, who played the bagpipes on the way before having a final drink together.

Senior shop steward Steve Reeves, 47, made a video to document the moment along with an explanation of the redundancies which has been viewed more than 330,000 times on Facebook.

The Stonecross depot, which was open for 20 years, is one of eight in the country which has been closed with deliveries by the brewery being outsourced to DHL Tradeteam.

Steve, who worked at the depot for 15 years, said: "It was a sad day after working with a lot of the guys together for so long.

"It takes a certain type of person to work in this type of industry as there is a lot of physical work involved and the hours can be quite long."

"We have all been like a tight-knit family and will stay in touch."

The depot was closed on Friday, February 23.

Steve also confirmed that since the video was posted, companies have contacted him asking if they can help with finding work for the staff.
