Two men have been arrested after a taxi driver died following reports of an assault in an airport car park.

Police were called to a reported assault in the car park of Terminal 2 of Manchester Airport at about 8.25am on Friday.

A 57-year-old man was taken to hospital but later died.

A Greater Manchester Police (GMP) spokesman said two men, aged 55 and 26, have been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and were being questioned.

Detective Chief Inspector Carl Jones, of GMP's Major Incident Team, said: "We have specially trained officers supporting the man's family at what is understandably an incredibly difficult time and our thoughts remain with them.

"We have two men in custody but our investigation is still in its very early stages. Several witnesses are currently helping us with our enquiries."

A post-mortem examination is due to be carried out on Saturday and enquiries remain ongoing at the scene.
