ANGLERS have held a fishing match in memory of an inspirational Leigh man.
Ken Buxton was club secretary of Plank Lane Angling Society for more than 40 years and encouraged children at Leigh and district ospreys to take up an interest in the sport.
He died in February at the age of 76.
More than 80 anglers of all ages took part in a memorial match for him on April 21 which stretched along both the Leeds and Liverpool Canal and the Bridgewater Canal.
Dave Massey won the top prize with a catch of more than 19lbs and the trophy was handed to him by Ken’s son Fred and his daughter Jayne Acton at a presentation evening at the Waterside Inn on Twist Lane.
Lewis Orange scooped the junior prize.
Jayne also started the fishing match at 10.30am on the day by blowing Ken's famous "all in" whistle that he used at angling events.
A raffle draw also raised £300 for the British Heart Foundation and various cancer charities.
