A BROWNIE leader has been recognised after serving the community for 40 years.

Irene Naylor, from Hindley Green, was presented with a commemorative badge at St John’s Church on Atherton Road.

The 62-year-old, who runs 2nd Hindley Brownie Pack, picked up her prize in front of around 100 people.

Irene’s daughter Clare, 37, said: “I was very proud to see my mum collect the badge.

“She deserves it for the hard work and dedication she has put in.

“She does a lot of background work behind the scenes which people are not aware of including the preparation for our annual trips away.”

Grandmother-of-two Irene, who has the rank of Brown Owl, was presented with the badge at the group’s monthly brigade at the church.

After a service at 9.30am the brigade took place before it led them back to the church.

There were pictures on display in the church hall from the last 40 years and the group were treated to tea and toast.

Clare added: “My mum loves running her group so she can see the children enjoying themselves and helping them to develop their skills.”
