A FORMER members club is set to be converted into 17 apartments and bring "a new lease of life" to the building.

Plans have been submitted to Wigan Council to turn the old Tyldesley Conservative Club on Stanley Street into self-contained apartments with a new roof structure and other alterations to the outside of the property.

The proposals have been made by Ochre Building Design Ltd, which is based in Shrewsbury.

Director Graham Burns said: "The building is a beautifully detailed and substantial existing building within the Tyldesley town centre conservation area.

"The proposal is a great opportunity to give the building a new lease of life and a strong future as well as providing an exciting and characterful place to live in the centre of town.

"Special regard has been given to retain the prominence of the original building without any significant alterations or additions but enough to provide a viable and workable solution."

A decision on the move is expected to be made on August 28 with a neighbourhood consultation currently in place until June 22.
