HORSE riders arrived in force at Bickershaw Country Park at an annual gathering in the North West.

Riders from Leigh, Lowton and Hindley were among the people who showed up for the first ever Wigan Rendezvous to celebrate The British Horse Society Ride Out UK Month.

One of the main aims of the event was to highlight the importance of how bridleways and byways are safe off-road areas for horse riders.

It also highlighted routes that they can use outside their normal riding area.

Riders were presented with rosettes by the mayor of Wigan borough Cllr Sue Greensmith, which celebrate the 70th year of The British Horse Society.

Bridleway enthusiastic Brenda Gaskell also introduced the event.

There was £150 each raised for The Bickershaw Project and £150 of Leigh District Access Group.

The event took place on Sunday, May 20.
