AN English Schools Track and Field Championships bronze medal is hanging round the neck of Warrington’s Ashley Nemits.

The Bridgewater High School student was overhauled by two runners in the final straight of the junior girls’ 300m race at Alexander Stadium in Birmingham on Saturday.

All three medallists recorded personal best times, with Nemits’ 39.76secs being 0.33secs faster than the second-place finish in her heat the previous day.

Warrington Guardian:

Three of her fellow Warrington Athletics Club runners missed out on medals.

Jordan Jones completed a 1500m steeplechase faster than he has before as he finished fourth in the intermediate boys’ race in 4mins 32.81secs.

Warrington Guardian:

He would have needed to have run around 10 seconds faster to win a medal.

In the intermediate boy’s 3000m Jones’ training partner Joe Buckley was only a couple of seconds outside his best time as he finished 12th in 8mins 57.65secs in a very fast race.

Warrington Guardian:

Meg Corker equalled her electronic best time of 11.43secs as she qualified second from her heat for the junior girls’ 75m hurdles semi-finals, where she ran 0.01secs faster to bow out in seventh.

She ran the third leg of the junior girls’ 4x100m relay, with Nemits running the fourth leg, as Cheshire crossed the line fifth in their heat in 50.19secs.

Elsewhere, coach and student took part in the Trafford Grand Prix at Longford Stadium.

In the 100m series, under 17s runner Emily Jackson won in 13.35secs while her coach Phil Knowles was fourth in his race with 13.25secs. Emily also won her 300m race in 43.40secs.
