A DARTS player says it would “mean the world” to him if he come up against his sporting hero in an exhibition later this month.

David Evans, of Crawford Avenue, Tyldesley, is competing in an exhibition at The Queen Elizabeth Hall in Oldham on Saturday, October 20 in which darting legend Phil “The Power” Taylor will be playing.

The event, which is organised by Modus Darts Management, one of David’s sponsors, will also feature professionals Glen Durrant and Darryl Fitton.

David, 28, currently competes on the PDC Challenge Tour- the sport’s second tier- with aspirations of testing himself at the highest level.

He said: “It would mean the world to play against Phil in the exhibition.

"He’s my idol and I started playing darts because of him.

"I also remember playing Phil in an exhibition when I was 11.

“I am hoping to achieve my PDC tour card in January at a qualifying school which would give me the chance to play the best players in the world for two years.”

David, who stars for Lancashire and plays weekly at The 180 Club in Leigh as well as the Atherton And Tyldesley Botanical Gardens Association, has been playing full time since March.

He has won the YDP Synergy Cleaning Champion of Champions. Other memorable victories in his career have come against Gerwyn Price and Alan Norris in the UK Open.

David, who threw his first darts at the age of eight, is hoping the event will help to inspire the younger generation to get involved in the game.

He added: “The exhibition has been organised to get more youngsters in the area to play darts and it is amazing to have one the greatest ever players at the event.

"I was in the Lancashire youth team and it is open to anyone up to the age of 21.”
