A VITAL £3,000-a-month grant for a town centre homeless shelter battling to keep its doors open has been extended until January 31.

The funding, which Warrington Borough Council provides to Room at the Inn, on Winmarleigh Street, has been under review.

However, despite the boost for the site, uncertainty continues to surround the long-term future of the funding.

A council spokesman said: "We can confirm that the grant to Room at the Inn has been extended until January 31, 2019.

"We are committed to combating homelessness and supporting those who are affected by it with appropriate services.

"We will continue to support Room at the Inn's management team and trustees to put in place the improvements that are needed to meet the conditions of the grant."

The shelter says it costs £400 per day to deliver its services.

It has been asking residents, groups, churches and businesses to donate money to help it continue its work.
