ITV’s “Love Your Garden” presenter David Domoney has visited an armed forces charity allotment to take a close look at its green-fingered achievements.

Shoulder to Soldier’s green space at Bents Garden and Home in Glazebury has been transformed by the hard work of 40 veterans.

As a reward for the group’s success, Cultivation Street has named the group as the regional winners of the Community Garden 2018 category.

The charity has also been presented with a cheque of £1,000 and given 100 geraniums to make room for at the Warrington Road site.

Shoulder to Soldier founder Linda Fisher said: “David was impressed with the transformation of the allotment area, he took time out to speak to each and everyone of the veterans who have worked so hard to deliver the project.

"He gave them useful tips on maintaining the plot and lots of words of encouragement.

"We wanted to thank all local businesses and the community for their support."

Painting at the allotment shed has also been done by Mark Cain from Leigh shop Cut Throat Tattoos.

Armed forces families are welcome to go to the allotment every Sunday at 10am for a bacon butty and tea or coffee.
