HIGH Schools in the borough have been ranked according to their latest set of GCSE results.
Golborne High School had the highest provisional progress 8 score in the borough according to statistics released by the Department for Education (DfE).
The figures measure the progress pupils made between their year 6 SATs and their GCSEs in year 11.
The Lowton Road school has leapfrogged last year's frontrunner Standish Community High School with 50 per cent of its students achieving grade 5 in GCSE English and Maths.
It is "well above the national average" according to the table, making it the only one in the borough to fall into this category.
Bedford High School, Westleigh High School (which is now known as The Westleigh School), Atherton Community School and Hindley High School are "well below the national average".
Lowton High School and St Mary's Catholic High School in Astley have been rated as "below average" in the charts.
Fred Longworth High School has been classed as "average".
