A MAN and woman in their 60s were taken to hospital with serious injuries after a crash on Thursday.
Emergency services were called at around 11am after two cars were involved in a crash on the junction of Manchester Road and Parkdale, nearby to Astley St Mary's High School.
A spokeswoman for North West Ambulance said that four patients from one car were treated at the scene for "minor injuries" and were discharged.
Meanwhile a man and woman in the other vehicle sustained serious injuries and were taken to hospital.
The spokeswoman said: "Two patients have been taken to hospital. One woman in her 60s had a leg injury.
"The man was trapped in the vehicle and both patients were cases of major trauma."
