A PRIMARY school is celebrating about being recognised for its progression in learning Spanish.
Children and staff at St Gabriel’s Catholic Primary School in Higher Folds has received the Primary Languages Development Award.
The Queensway school has been handed the prize for its dedication, hard work and commitment to learning Spanish.
The school recently took part in a Spanish festival week where children tasted traditional food, joined in with flamenco dance classes.
They also met a Spanish teacher from the nation’s embassy in Manchester.
St Gabriel’s head teacher Mrs Williams said: “The children are fully engaged in learning and this is opening doors to other cultures and deepening the children’s curiosity and understanding of the world, while providing lifelong skills and opportunities for their future.”
Pupils at the school, who are aged from 6-11, are taught the European language weekly by teacher Robert Artingstall through a range of ways including fun games, songs and activities.
Mr Artingstall said: "I'm really proud of the children's enthusiasm and commitment to learning Spanish."
