WORKS are ongoing to repair a gas leak on a mains pipe under a busy road.
Engineers from network company Cadent have been at Bolton Road in Atherton this week to find the exact spot under the road where the leak is coming from.
A Cadent spokesman said the situation is under control with no need for residents to hold concerns.
Engineers are set to start digging down to the main pipe on Monday in the next stage of the repair works.
One lane of Bolton Road, near the junction of Marlborough Road while the works takes place.
Temporary traffic lights will be introduced with the work expected to be completed in around three days.
The Cadent spokesman added: "We know the lane closure is not ideal, but hopefully people understand that this is essential work to keep everyone safe and maintain gas supplies locally.
"We’ve been out to local shops and talked to residents to let them know about the work and we really appreciate everyone’s patience as we get this issue sorted."
