THE winners of the inaugural Pride of St Helens Business Awards were crowned last night.

Local businesses, social enterprises, schools and colleges were among those gathered at Saints' Totally Wicked Stadium for an uplifting occasion that aimed to build on the Pride of St Helens awards.

Twelve awards were handed out, including the headline Pride of St Helens Business Award, which went to Rainford-based O2 franchise Communications Plus Ltd, who recorded a double on the night after also collecting employer of the year.

Meanwhile, Groundwork's Amy Dawber was named employee of the year.

Eamonn McManus, chairman of both the St Helens Economy Board and St Helens RFC, said: “The night was an opportunity to celebrate the role of businesses, and other organisations who commit investments not only into their own organisations, but also into raising the profile of St Helens.

"Great businesses nurture aspirations and pride, they inspire others, and above all, help to create jobs for our communities and wealth for the town.

“All the businesses here tonight participate and contribute to the economy of St Helens and I believe that there is a clear link between the prosperity and success of individual enterprises and the success of the town as a whole.”
