TWO prolific shoplifters have been jailed.

Jack Mountford, of Richmond Drive, Higher Fold, admitted committing 14 thefts in Wigan shops from October 8 to November 6 which amounted to a value of £858.19.

The 23-year-old was sentenced to 14 weeks in prison, one week for each offence, and ordered to pay compensation fees amounting to £200.

Ashleigh Tolley, also of Richmond Drive, Higher Fold, pleaded guilty to stealing from four shops in Wigan between October 12 and November 3.

By committing the thefts, the 27-year-old breached the conditions of a suspended sentence handed to her on August 1.

She was jailed for 16 weeks in total, 12 weeks for breaching the suspended sentence and one week each for the four thefts in Wigan.

The defendant was also ordered to pay £200.23 worth of compensation fees.

Mountford and Tolley were sentenced at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates' Court on Thursday.
