FIVE cats died in a cattery fire this morning, Monday.
Two fire engines were called to Boston Grove in Leigh at around 8.25am where a cattery was well alight.
The fire started accidentally after burning rubbish spread to the pen where the cats were housed.
A spokesman for Leigh Community Fire Station confirmed five cats died in the blaze as opposed to six deaths that was previously reported.
A man also suffered superficial facial injuries and was taken to hospital.
A woman sustained superficial arm injuries and was treated at the scene.
The fire happened at the property of a volunteer of charity Pet Rehome.
Chairwoman of Pet Rehome Kathy Walton said: "It is a tragic incident that has devastated everyone concerned.
"We are still reeling from what has happened."
Fire crews were in attendance for two hours.
