PLANS have been sent to Wigan Council to turn the Burton Menswear shop in Leigh town centre into a restaurant, cafe or takeaway.

A change of use application has been submitted to turn the ground floor of the Bradshawgate site into one of the three business types.

The proposals follow a planning application issued earlier this month to turn the first, second and third floors of the building, which are currently used as shop storage, into six flats.

A planning document for the new plans state: "There will be a small amount of development to the ground floor retail area, mainly stripping out all the retail shelving and office area, including the removal of the existing staircase.

"This will open up this area to the existing Front Window of the premises to allow views into and out of the premises.

"It is intended to retaining the existing shop front with re branding."

A neighbourhood consultation is currently in place with a decision set to be made on January 8.
