A WOMAN from Leigh who was charged with assaulting a police officer at a McDonald's restaurant has avoided prison.

Police were called at 7.10pm on October 15 to reports of anti-social behaviour at the fast food chain on Benson Road in Birchwood, Warrington.

When officers arrived, a 26-year-old woman and a 27-year-old man were arrested and taken into custody to be questioned.

Jodie Roberts, of Kent Street, Leigh, was charged with assault against a police officer and using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour.

Roberts pleaded guilty to the offences on November 8 and was sentenced in Warrington Magistrates' Court on November 16.

She was given 12 weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months, and was made subject to alcohol treatment and rehabilitation activities.

She must pay £150 in compensation.
