A MAN is set to appear in court charged with assaulting two policemen and stealing from a number of businesses.

Neil Shaw, of Carlisle Grove, Leigh is due to be sentenced at Bolton Crown Court on January 4 after being accused of assaulting the officers in the town on Monday.

The 33-year-old allegedly stole items such as a grinder, plyers and gloves on the same date.

Shaw has also been charged with stealing £300 from B&Q on July 6, goods and cash to the value of £400 from Lorne Stewart on July 20 and spirits worth £150 from the Spinning Jenny pub on August 29.

He faces 10 more charges of theft including taking three charity boxes.

Shaw made an appearance at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates' Court yesterday, Tuesday.
